The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) said it had uncovered alleged plots by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to subvert it and cause rancour within its ranks to damage it’s electoral fortunes.
The party in a statement on Tuesday by its national chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, alleged that attempts were being made to “recruit polling agents for the party by persons with no authority to do so”.
The statement reads in part, “It is now clear that attempts are being made to use some subversive and disgraced former members of the party to create impressions of division in the party, as well as use strategically-placed officers of the party to weaken it and sabotage its grassroots support. These efforts are being linked with senior members of the ruling party who are being persuaded to fund this scheme with hundreds of millions of naira.
“The party hereby alerts its members and the public to these attempts and warns against the temptation to support these subversive elements.
“In particular, attempts to recruit polling agents for the Party by persons with no authority to do so should be resisted. Huge amounts of money may be available to buy members’ support for opposition candidates by party officials. These efforts should be resisted and exposed. The persons in the governing party involved in this scheme have been advised to steer clear of the PRP and distance themselves from attempts to create a fictional PRA with their party’s funds and their names. Serving officers of the arty involved in this scheme will face disciplinary measures.
“The leadership of the PRP wishes to assure its candidates and party supporters that it will not sacrifice their commitments and loyalty at any price. The party is committed to providing a befitting challenge to the continuation of this administration beyond 2027, as well as its role in building a potential winning coalition”.
