FORT WALTON BEACH — Choctawhatchee's 49-7 win over Gulf Breeze win does not require much ink nor examination.
Doing what a reigning Final 4 team should do to a winless district foe, the Big Green barely broke a sweat as Baker Giles threw for three touchdowns in just a half, Dante Whidbee and Carter Marracco both found the end zone twice and Amir Reese affirmed why he's the best special teams player in the area with punt return to paydirt and a blocked field goal.
On a night when Richie Grant's No. 9 jersey was retired and the Homecoming Court commanded the spotlight at halftime, Choctaw's backups got as much playing times as the starters and the Big Green won their fifth straight to improve to 3-0 in District 1-4A and position themselves for a fifth straight district title.
No matter that they hadn't played since Thursday, Oct. 1. The district still runs through Choctaw.
"We're coming together," said Whidbee, who in the first quarter scored on both of his touches from 3 and 70 yards out. "We've been off for three weeks, but in the meantime we're putting in that work. All gas, no breaks."
No breaks for a roster that is brimming with athleticism. Marracco is a touchdown threat every time he touches the ball (10 scores) Dante Whidbee is healthy and nearly impossible to bring down, Von Keller is getting healthy and quarterback Baker Giles has Marracco, Reese, Noah Calderon, Ryno Burks and DJ Spence at his disposal, the transfer quarterback thriving with 11 touchdown passes compared to just two interceptions
Now Booker T. Washington (6-1, 3-0) comes to town Thursday in a clash of 3-0 teams in District 1-4A. Win and the Big Green will be just a victory over crosstown rival Fort Walton on Nov. 4 from wrapping up the district and a playoff spot.
