Serenje District Commissioner (DC), Ellen Mibenge has called on agricultural stakeholders to work together to unlock the district’s agricultural potential and contribute to the Grow Zambia Agenda.
Ms Mibenge says farmers, cooperatives, agricultural institutions, agro-dealers and private investors should strengthen collaboration to boost agricultural production and support the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda.
Speaking during the commemoration of Zambia’s 62nd Independence Anniversary in Serenje, Ms Mibenge said the Government cannot not achieve its sector targets without the active participation of all stakeholders.
“The Government cannot realise this transformation alone. We need to contribute to the national agricultural targets under the Grow Zambia Agenda, which the Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, is implementing over the next five years,” Ms Mibenge said.
She said as the Government pursued national production targets for maize, soya beans, wheat and sugar, agricultural stakeholders in Serenje should ensure that agriculture remained a key driver of economic transformation and contribute meaningfully to national production.
Ms Mibenge added that all stakeholders have a responsibility to facilitate collaboration and ensure that national development priorities translate into tangible benefits for the people of Serenje.
On decentralisation, the DC emphasised the need to strengthen coordination between central and local government to ensure that district development priorities aligned with provincial and national objectives.
She also called on residents to uphold peace, unity and national values, saying these were essential to achieving the Grow Zambia Agenda.
Ms Mibenge further urged Serenje Town Council to manage public resources transparently and efficiently to ensure that development projects responded to the needs of local communities.
