In Stranded Deep, players find themselves stranded on a deserted tropical island and must survive with whatever resources they can find – much like Robinson Crusoe. The game is free to play on Steam for a limited time.

For gamers who enjoy Robinson Crusoe and have a soft spot for survival crafting games, Stranded Deep is practically a must-play. Released in 2022, the title from Beam Team Games drops players into the middle of the Pacific Ocean after a plane crash and sends them on a classic survival adventure. Stranded Deep is free to play on Steam over the weekend – more precisely, until next Monday, October 19, at 7 PM. Those who enjoy the experience can then purchase the game at a 60% discount for around $6.40 instead of the usual $16. According to SteamDB, the survival game has never been this cheap before.
In terms of gameplay, Stranded Deep offers typical survival crafting: gathering resources, building weapons and shelter, and keeping an eye on hunger and thirst along the way. Food can be obtained not only through spearfishing and hunting but also by growing crops. Unlike Robinson Crusoe, players can eventually build a raft and explore the surrounding islands. Three boss creatures also await as additional challenges. Visually, the game, developed using the Unity engine, is quite impressive – and it's also compatible with the Steam Deck. Players can survive alone or team up in online co-op for up to two players.
According to Steam reviews, players appreciate the atmospheric game world, which not only captures the feeling of being on a tropical island but also offers shipwrecks, abandoned shelters and plenty more to explore. The crafting system is said to be particularly engaging, especially during the first few hours. Over time, however, Stranded Deep becomes rather repetitive. Combined with bugs and technical issues, this has resulted in just 48% of the 75 reviews submitted so far being positive. Nevertheless, the free weekend makes it well worth checking out.

As a child in the 90s, my Gameboy was my steady companion. After school, the PlayStation was fired up. When I finally got my first PC, I was completely hooked. My passion for gaming has never waned since. For me, writing for Notebookcheck means reporting on topics that are really close to my heart - in addition to gaming, I also like to write about e-mobility, photovoltaics and innovative gadgets. When I'm not sitting at my computer, I'm probably on water rescue duty on the Baltic coast or trying to counteract the downsides of my geek life - namely sitting for long periods - at the local swimming pool.
