Palma Airport faced a double emergency after two aircraft encountered separate problems, prompting a swift response from air traffic controllers and emergency services. Both incidents were dealt with safely by the crews involved and the teams on the ground at Son Sant Joan.
The first incident involved an Air X flight travelling from Faro, Portugal, to Palermo, Italy. According to the X account @controladores, the crew reported a pressurisation problem while flying near eastern Menorca. The aircraft turned around and headed for Palma, carrying out a continuous emergency descent before approaching runway 24L (left).
At the same time, air traffic controllers were preparing for the arrival of another flight carrying a passenger who was experiencing medical problems. The aircraft was directed towards runway 24R (right), while the airport’s emergency services were alerted and placed on standby.
Both incidents were managed without major disruption to airport operations. The aircraft affected by the pressurisation issue landed safely, and the runways were subsequently cleared, allowing other flights to continue operating normally.
The incidents occurred during a busy weekend for Palma Airport, coinciding with Spain’s October 12 National Day public holiday. The airport has been contacted for further information, but no additional details have been provided.
