Gol, one of Brazil’s largest airlines, will end its Miami and Orlando flights from Brasília, plus Belém to Miami and Fortaleza to Orlando. The airline said jet fuel prices have doubled and now make up about 40% of its operating costs.
For US travellers, the cuts end Gol’s nonstop links between Florida and Brazil’s capital and two big northern cities from February 2027. Gol will also drop routes to Paraguay, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic, plus several flights inside Brazil, O Globo reported.
Which Routes Are Going
O Globo, the Rio de Janeiro daily, listed the flights from Brasília to Miami and to Orlando among the routes Gol will drop. The same report, carried by the business site InfoMoney, named the flight from Belém, the Amazon river port, to Miami.
Gol first confirmed the end of its Fortaleza to Orlando flights to the news site g1 on Tuesday 13 October. Fortaleza is a beach city in Brazil’s northeast, and the trade site Brasilturis lists the same Florida routes among those going.
Folha de S.Paulo, the São Paulo daily, also reported cuts to Gol’s Miami and Orlando flights, which use Boeing 737 jets. The airline said it would keep passengers connected through connecting flights and partner airlines.
Abroad, Gol will also stop flying from Rio de Janeiro to Asunción in Paraguay and to Montevideo in Uruguay, according to O Globo. A flight from São Paulo to Punta Cana, the beach resort in the Dominican Republic, is also on the list.
Inside Brazil, the list includes São Paulo’s Congonhas city airport to Ribeirão Preto, Brasília to Goiânia and Salvador to Aracaju. All the changes take effect from February 2027, the company said.
Why Gol Is Cutting Back
Gol said the price of jet fuel has doubled and now makes up about 40% of its operating costs, g1, the Globo news site, reported. The news site tied the jump to the war between the United States and Iran, which began in late February.
Gol was the only Brazilian airline that had not yet cut routes in response to the fuel shock, O Globo reported. In a statement, the company called network planning “a dynamic and continuous process” in commercial aviation.
Gol added that its changes follow the needs of the whole operation, “without any regional distinction or prioritisation”. It said it has more than 60 codeshare and interline deals with other airlines to carry passengers onward.
The Florida Connection
Gol links its Miami and Orlando flights with those of its partner American Airlines in Miami, Passageiro de Primeira reported. The travel site said Gol made Brasília its main base for US flights during this year’s June to August peak.
In July, Gol also launched nonstop flights between Rio de Janeiro and New York’s JFK airport, the trade outlet Mercado & Eventos reported. Gol belongs to Abra, the airline group that also controls Colombia’s Avianca, according to the aviation site Aeroin.
The cuts come as Rio de Janeiro’s main airport, Galeão, seeks more US service under its new Spanish operator. Its plan foresees more flights to New York, Dallas, Miami and Atlanta by January 2027.
What It Means for You
Travellers who used Gol’s nonstop Miami and Orlando flights to reach Brasília, Belém or Fortaleza will need to change planes once the cuts start. Gol said it will offer connecting flights or seats on partner airlines instead.
Passengers who bought directly from Gol can ask for a new date, a credit or a refund through its call centre, g1 reported. Tickets bought with miles go through Smiles, Gol’s loyalty programme, and agency bookings through the agency.
From outside Brazil, Gol’s call centre answers on +55 11 3471 2973, according to g1. Anyone booked on these routes around the turn of the year should check their flight, since Gol has not given each route’s last day.
What Is Not Known
Gol has not published a full list of the routes it will drop or reduce, nor the last flight date on each route. It has not said how many flights or seats the cuts remove.
Gol has not said whether other US flights, such as Rio de Janeiro to New York, will change. It is also not known whether a fall in fuel prices could bring any route back.
