This in from Oilers insider Jason Gregor, an injury update on the Edmonton Oilers, including some relatively good news on ace d-man Mattias Ekholm, a projection that he’ll be out only a handful of games, not a handful of months.

Ekholm went down heavily, smashing his head to the ice in Thursday’s game against the Canes.
Gregor reports, “Levi will be out a few weeks. Not long term. Ekholm will miss next three games. Expected to be ready for road trip next weekend. Dickinson is getting close. Could be Calgary game (next Wed), if not then on the road trip.”

1. That looked like a wicked injury to Ekholm, one that could see him out for months. This is excellent news if he’s out for only the next three games.
2. It’s disheartening that just as Devon Levi had seized the starting job with his steady and at times spectacular play is also out. The Oilers aren’t catching any breaks on the injury front just now. But perhaps after two relatively rough games when it comes to defending, Edmonton’s players will now crank it up again and play championship defence again. The team did so for a handful of games earlier this season.
Tristan Jarry could use some predictable play in front of him. The chaos he experienced last year from his teammates didn’t help his save percentage, it’s fair to say.
More to come…
