Giants to release Pro Bowler as odd RB room decisions continue for John Harbaugh originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Giants lost to the New Orleans Saints in Week 6, making it the second week in a row they've failed to win a game they really should've been able to.
Jameis Winston was benched for J.J. McCarthy, and now there's a quarterback controversy. But a different position group on offense has a far stranger situation unfolding. That belongs to the running back room, courtesy of John Harbaugh.
After not giving Cam Skattebo any touches in Week 6, the Giants then turned to Najee Harris, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary. But after Week 6, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports, the Giants have now cut ties with Harris, the Pro Bowl RB, as the odd moves continue in this RB room.
Giants cut ties with Najee Harris as odd RB decisions continue
"Source: The Giants are releasing RB Najee Harris, another RB shakeup," Rapoport reported Tuesday morning.
The 3-2-1 Giants have cut ties with Harris after six games, leaving the backfield to Skattebo, Tracy, and Singletary.
But, considering Harris was poised for a large role in Week 6 with Skattebo's benching, it's a bit off that he didn't see the field much, running the ball just four times for two yards, when the Saints have a porous run defense.

Tracy ran the ball six times for just 18 yards, and Singletary four times for just 14 yards. It was a very poor day running the ball for the Giants, with two McCarthy scrambles for 26 total yards and a Darnell Mooney rush for 20 easily leading the ground game.
Harbaugh's running back plan recently has been odd and frustrating, and this recent shakeup is another strange move, although this should help clarify things going forward.
Skattebo is sure to get back involved in the offense, as he's probably their best running back. Tracy is sure to be involved as well, as he did have two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown, along with a rushing TD in the loss to the Saints.
Singletary will likely see some work as well, but this RB room is going to be a toss-up for who's going to be the leader going forward. Giants fans will likely be in the dark every week, unless one back clearly emerges as the top contributor over the next few weeks.
