Iraqi authorities have let Australian man Robert Pether leave the country, Foreign Minister Penny Wong says.
Mr Pether was released from jail last year after serving four years of a five-year sentence but was restricted from leaving the country.
Senator Wong on Monday welcomed the decision.

“I spoke to Mr Pether shortly before his departure from Baghdad and am pleased he is now free to move forward with his life and be reunited with his family,” she said.
“Today’s outcome follows many years of persistent advocacy by the Australian government, including at the highest levels of government, and sustained consular assistance to Mr Pether and his family.”

Mr Pether, an engineer, was designing Iraq’s central bank in Baghdad when a contract dispute broke out between his employer and the national government.
The quarrel resulted in Mr Pether and an Egyptian colleague being sentenced to five years behind bars and fined millions of dollars on fraud charges – charges both men deny.
