Masoud Suleiman, Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), announced the opening of the Al-Rashad gas field, located south of the city of Brega today.
The announcement coincides with the 65th anniversary of the first oil shipment exported from the Brega oil port in 1961.
The field has a production capacity of 50 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The NOC said the integration of this field into the production system represents a significant addition to the oil and gas sector; it bolsters gas supplies and helps meet the requirements of power plants and industrial sectors.
