The Government of Montenegro has issued a construction permit for the construction of the 88 MW Korita wind farm in the municipality of Bijelo Polje.
The Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property issued a construction permit for the company Vjetro park Korita, registered in Montenegro’s capital Podgorica, for the construction of a renewable energy power plant, the Korita wind farm, with a total installed capacity of 88 MW – phase 1, at a location in the municipality of Bijelo Polje.
The phase 1 of the construction of the wind farm comprises the construction of eleven wind turbines with supporting infrastructure, and a 35/400 kV substation.
If Vjetro park Korita does not start construction within the deadline, its permit expires
The investor is obliged to commence construction of the plant within two years from the date the construction permit was issued, according to the ministry’s decision.
If the investor does not start construction within the deadline, its right to build under the issued construction permit expires. The investor is also obliged to complete the construction of the facility within five years from the date the construction permit was issued.
This means that the company Vjetro park Korita has to to build the power plant by October 2031.
EPCG-Solar-gradnja signed a cooperation agreement with Obnovljivi izvori energije in April 2023
Of note, back in April 2023, state-owned EPCG-Solar-gradnja, a subsidiary of Montenegro’s power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, signed a memorandum with renewables developer Obnovljivi izvori energije (OIE Podgorica).
The memorandum envisages cooperation in the construction of solar power plant Čevo (225 MW), wind power plant Bijela (118 MW), and wind farm Korita.
Construction of a solar power plant near the village of Korita is also planned
In January 2024, a public call was published for the lease of 150 hectares of state-owned land in the municipality of Bijelo Polje for the construction of a wind farm at the Korita location.
That same month, Montenegro’s transmission system operator CGES and project firm EE Korita signed an agreement on the construction of infrastructure for connecting a EUR 200 million solar power plant to the transmission grid near the village of Korita.
