Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japan’s Immigration Services Agency has deported an Uzbek citizen who was staying in the country illegally, with the costs covered by the state budget.
The individual entered Japan on a student visa and remained in the country after it expired, before being detained by the authorities, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said.
The embassy warned that illegal residence or employment in Japan can result in strict measures, including police detention, placement in an immigration detention facility and deportation.
The Japanese government also shares information about immigration violators with the government of Uzbekistan, meaning that measures may be taken against them after they return home. The diplomatic mission urged Uzbek citizens not to trust offers claiming that “you can work in Japan.”
The embassy also refuted claims circulating that people can remain in Japan for an extended period or work there after applying for refugee status. It said that applications submitted for such purposes are not permitted.
If an application for refugee status is rejected, the applicant may be placed in an immigration detention facility or deported.
Providing false information or attempting to obtain refugee status through unlawful means may result in serious legal consequences.
