Pope Leo XIV
The Vatican, on Wednesday, gave an update on Pope Leo XIV’s recovery following lung surgery that revealed the Pontiff has lung cancer.
The Pontiff’s “recovery is proceeding as expected,” the Vatican announced in a statement, adding, “This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery.”
According to the Vatican, the Pope’s results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally, with the values within the expected range for the type of operation performed.
“The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch,” the Vatican said.
The update on the Pope’s recovery comes after a successful surgery that lasted about “90 minutes” on Tuesday.
The Vatican announced the Pontiff’s “An intraoperative histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, as suspected from the preoperative examinations.”
