Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Trinity-Conception District RCMP responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 70. Local firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel also attended the scene.
The driver was not located with the vehicle, and witnesses reported that he had left the scene on foot.
The 50-year-old man was located nearby by police, showing signs of impairment and he was arrested without incident.
He did not report injuries as a result of the crash.
The driver was transported to the detachment in Bay Roberts where he provided breath samples that were more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
The man’s licence was suspended, and his vehicle was seized and impounded by police.
He was released from police custody and will appear in Provincial Court in December 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation over 80 mg per cent.
The RCMP states that driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is an unacceptable and unnecessary choice that puts everyone on the province’s roads at risk.
“If you suspect someone is operating any vehicle while impaired, call 911 immediately to make a report.”
