Madiha Kheir, the MP and former minister-delegate for vocational training and professional development who was dismissed two days after her appointment to Fatima Zahra Mansouri’s government, is expected to resign from Parliament, according to sources within the Istiqlal Party.
Kheir, who topped the results in the Beni Mellal constituency in the latest legislative elections, is expected to submit her resignation on Wednesday at the request of the party’s leadership, Hespress sources said.
The move comes as Istiqlal seeks to manage the political fallout from the case involving Kheir, following the resurfacing of judicial proceedings dating back more than two decades. The controversy prompted a request for her dismissal from the government, the sources said.
Kheir’s departure from Parliament would pave the way for the runner-up on her electoral list to take her seat. Her list secured more than 22,000 votes in the constituency.
Kheir’s dismissal came just two days after her appointment, following public debate over her past and the judicial cases involving her. Head of Government Fatima Zahra Mansouri submitted a request for her dismissal to King Mohammed VI, who approved it, according to the report.
