MYAGDI, Oct 12: A mudslide in Beni municipality-2 has emerged as a major hurdle for the Baglung-Beni road, which links Myagdi and Mustang to the national highway. Heavy rains from September 24 to 27 caused severe flooding near Bhasbhase, where the Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers meet, leading to road erosion.
This has not only disrupted transport services but also heightened the risk of accidents. The Kaligandaki River has washed away the access road to the Maldhunga bridge, which connects Parbat and Baglung.

As a result, vehicles traveling to and from Baglung, Rukum East-West, and Pokhara-Kathmandu via the Mid-Hill Highway are now relying on the alternative Baglung-Beni-Maldhunga route. Kamal Subedi, a resident of Beni-2 Khabara, expressed concerns about the narrowness of the road, which often leaves vehicles stuck in the mud.
"The road has sunk two to three meters over a stretch of 100 meters due to river erosion and landslides," he noted. In the fiscal year 2081/82, the road division office in Baglung undertook groundwater management and slope stabilization efforts to combat landslides. Unfortunately, the sloped road has now been completely washed away.
Dilkumari Khatri, Acting Head of the District Coordination Committee in Myagdi, mentioned that while the road division office has attempted repairs and deployed equipment for traffic management in Bhasabse, the challenging geography has made it difficult to find a lasting solution.
