8 Largest Airline Loyalty Programs In The World By Disclosed Member Count

Airline Loyalty Programs have evolved far beyond frequent-flyer schemes designed simply to reward passengers for taking more flights. Today, they are major commercial businesses that connect airlines with credit-card companies, hotels, retailers, car-rental firms, and other everyday brands. A program's membership base size can indicate the scale of the ecosystem surrounding an airline.

This ranking looks at eight of the world's largest airline loyalty programs based on the latest publicly disclosed membership figures available for each program. Because airlines do not publish membership totals on a standardized schedule, the figures are not perfectly comparable: some are from 2026, while others are based on older official disclosures that remain the most recent publicly available figures. Each entry includes the relevant disclosure date.

8 Air France-KLM Flying Blue

35 million members

Air France-KLM's Flying Blue is at number 8 on this list with more than 35 million members, according to an official Air France-KLM disclosure in 2026. The program serves customers of Air France, KLM, and Transavia while also extending its earning and redemption opportunities through a much broader network of airline and commercial partners. In 2026, Air France-KLM said Flying Blue had passed the 35-million-member milestone.

The program's scale is particularly notable because Flying Blue has increasingly been positioned as an everyday loyalty network rather than a scheme focused exclusively on air travel. Members can earn miles through more than 100 commercial partners, with Air France-KLM highlighting partnerships including Uber, Booking.com and France's SNCF railway. Flying Blue also has more than 40 airline partners and gives members access to more than 1,000 destinations.

The 35-million figure was published in 2026, making it one of the fresher figures in this ranking. Flying Blue's position also shows why membership numbers alone don't tell the whole story: the program's commercial reach extends well beyond the number of people who regularly fly with Air France or KLM.

7 Lufthansa Group Miles & More

36 million members

Lufthansa Group's Miles & More has a slightly larger disclosed membership base, with more than 36 million registered members worldwide. The program was established in 1993 and has grown into one of Europe's most extensive travel loyalty systems, serving Lufthansa Group airlines and a broad network of partners. For example, Miles & More recorded more than 36 million members as of 2022.

Although this figure is older than some of the others on this list, Miles & More still describes its membership base as exceeding 36 million. The program has more than 175 partners spanning airlines (such as SWISS, Austrian Airlines and ITA Airways), hotels, car rental companies, retailers and financial services, giving members numerous ways to earn and redeem miles outside the aircraft cabin.

That longevity is an important part of Miles & More's strength. Unlike newer loyalty programs that have grown rapidly through digital enrollment and credit-card partnerships, the Lufthansa program has accumulated members over more than three decades. The airline group also continues to emphasize the program as a broader lifestyle platform rather than simply a frequent-flyer account.

6 LATAM Pass

54 million members

LATAM Pass has become one of the world's largest airline loyalty programs, with approximately 54 million members as of December 31, 2025. LATAM Airlines Group reported the figure in its 2025 Form 20-F, filed in 2026, noting a 9% increase from the previous year. The program's 2024 membership figure was approximately 49 million.

The program benefits from LATAM Airlines' extensive presence across South America, with the airline group serving major markets including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. LATAM Pass allows members to earn miles through flights and a network of financial and commercial partners, while miles can be redeemed for flights and other products and services. LATAM describes the program as a strategic asset and a core source of value for the group.

LATAM's latest filing also makes an important distinction: only about 35% of total membership was considered active, defined as members who earned or redeemed miles in the preceding 24 months.

5 IAG Avios

70 million members

IAG Avios is substantially larger than a conventional single-airline frequent-flyer program. The Avios system is used by British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, and several other airline partners, while IAG Loyalty manages the underlying loyalty business. IAG reported more than 70 million enrolled members in its 2025 Annual Report, published in March 2026. IAG's annual report identifies more than 70 million enrolled members across the loyalty platform, making it Europe's largest loyalty program.

The program's size reflects the decision to make Avios a common currency across several airline brands. Members can collect and redeem Avios through flights as well as hotels, financial services, retailers and other commercial partnerships. IAG said its loyalty business issued 200 billion Avios in 2025, an indication of the sheer scale of activity surrounding the program.

Avios also illustrates why defining a “program” can be complicated. A traveler who belongs to the British Airways Club, for example, is part of the wider Avios network, while other customers may collect Avios through Iberia or another participating airline. IAG reports the figure as the total number of enrolled members, not just the British Airways frequent-flyer total.

4 Southwest Rapid Rewards

100 million members

Southwest Airlines' Rapid Rewards program has grown to nearly 100 million members. In its second-quarter 2026 financial results, published on July 22, 2026, Southwest said strong enrollment growth had driven Rapid Rewards to its largest size ever at nearly 100 million members. Southwest's investor filing also noted that new enrollments increased 35% year over year.

Rapid Rewards matters to Southwest because the airline's business model has historically centered on repeat customers and a large domestic network. The program lets members earn points on Southwest flights and through a broad range of partners, including credit cards, hotels, and rental cars. Southwest has also continued to expand member benefits, including free Wi-Fi for Rapid Rewards members through its T-Mobile sponsorship.

The nearly 100-million figure is one of the ranking's most recent disclosures. It also demonstrates how quickly loyalty programs can grow when enrollment is closely integrated into the airline's vast digital network. While the number includes the full membership base rather than only highly active frequent flyers, it gives Rapid Rewards a scale comparable to the largest loyalty programs in commercial aviation.

3 American Airlines AAdvantage

Over 115 million members

American Airlines' AAdvantage program occupies a unique place in airline history. Launched in 1981, it became one of the industry's defining frequent-flyer programs and now has a publicly disclosed membership base of 115 million. American announced that figure in April 2021 as part of AAdvantage's 40th anniversary celebrations. American's official announcement remains the clearest public membership disclosure.

American has not provided a newer total membership number in its most recent financial releases, although its 2026 results show that AAdvantage continues to grow. In the first quarter of 2026, the airline reported record enrollment, with new enrollments rising 25% year over year. American also describes AAdvantage as its central loyalty platform and has continued expanding the ways customers can earn and redeem rewards.

However, the 115-million figure should not be read as evidence that AAdvantage still has exactly this number of members in 2026, as it has likely increased over the last five years. Comparing it with programs such as United MileagePlus and Southwest Rapid Rewards might be slightly misleading, as other airlines have released much newer figures.

2 Delta SkyMiles

120 million members

Delta Air Lines' SkyMiles program has grown into one of the world's most valuable airline loyalty businesses, with more than 120 million members. A 2026 Fortune report described SkyMiles as having 120 million members, while Delta's program continues to operate as a major component of the airline's commercial strategy. Delta's official SkyMiles overview explains the program's core earning, redemption, and status structure.

SkyMiles has become particularly important because of Delta's extensive credit-card relationship with American Express. Members can earn miles not only through Delta flights and its airline partners but also through co-branded cards and a large collection of non-airline activities. This creates a loyalty platform that can drive engagement even when customers are not traveling.

The 120-million figure was reported in 2026, making it considerably more current than American's 115-million disclosure. Nevertheless, a careful comparison shows American's number is from 2021. Based on the latest publicly available figures, SkyMiles appears to have overtaken AAdvantage, though a new American membership total could change that comparison.

1 United MileagePlus

130 million members

United Airlines' MileagePlus currently has the largest membership figure among the programs covered here, with more than 130 million members. United's investor-relations website describes MileagePlus as having over 130 million members, the highest publicly disclosed total in this group. United Airlines Investor Relations also highlights the program's miles-that-never-expire policy and lack of blackout dates for award seats.

MileagePlus benefits from United's enormous domestic and international network and its position within Star Alliance. Members can earn and redeem miles across United and a broad group of airline and non-airline partners. United has also increasingly integrated loyalty into its wider customer proposition, using MileagePlus status and rewards to encourage customers to remain within its ecosystem.

The 130-million-plus figure is current as of 2026, although United does not disclose the precise number behind the “over 130 million” description. MileagePlus is more accurately described as the largest publicly disclosed program in this comparison. Because airlines use different membership definitions and update their figures at different times, the ranking is best understood as a snapshot of the disclosed scale.

The numbers also reveal a broader trend. The largest airline loyalty programs are not only collections of frequent flyers; they are enormous customer databases and commercial networks that connect air travel with spending on credit cards, hotels, retail, dining, and other services. For airlines, that makes loyalty important not only for filling seats, but also for generating high-margin revenue beyond the ticket itself.
