“The development is advancing with commitments to protect existing electricity ratepayers, safeguard local water resources and deliver lasting community benefits,” EverWind said in a news release, adding that it will fund electricity infrastructure costs attributable to the project and will work with partners to establish a community benefit program worth tens of millions of dollars.
The data centre is expected to begin with an initial 95-megawatt phase in late 2027, followed by a 325-megawatt expansion in 2028. Its full capacity will be 420 megawatts.
Energy Minister Tim Hodgson said in statement that the investment represents “a powerful example of Canada’s energy opportunity in action — and exactly the kind of investment our government has been working to attract from day one.”
EverWind says the project will support 2,000 construction positions across the staged build-out and 215 permanent operating jobs.
