Heuvelton Central teams pulled down the curtain on an exciting NAC soccer season Friday.
The Heuvelton girls downed Morristown 1-0 in a tough grind-it NAC West postseason preview game and the Heuvelton boys blanked Colton-Pierrepont 3-0 in an NAC interdivision game.
In one other girls game, Canton downed Brushton-Moira 1-0.
Heuvelton 1 - Morristown 0: The Lady Bulldogs closed their regular season with two NAC West wins in two days while the Green Rockets turned in a second straight tenacious effort. Nikayla Lemieux scored the only goal of the game converting on a break-away off a pass from Blaire Reynolds in the first half.
Ava Blackburn stopped five saves for her second shutout in two days and Morristown’s Scarlett Ritchie handled 15 saves and teamed with her defensive backfield to play with poise in the face of heavy Heuvelton pressure.
“It was a tough game. We played very well and controlled a lot of the play. We are looking to play that way in the sectionals,” said Heuvelton Coach Denise Curry.
Heuvelton 3 - C-P 0: The Bulldogs opened a 2-0 lead in a matchup that could be repeated in the second round of the sectionals.
“Both teams approached the game like a friendly. We could meet again if they advance past Harrisville and no one wants to get any injuries for the sectionals,” said Heuvelton Coach Bruce Durant. “We played well and are looking forward to the sectionals.”
Dylan Ashlaw continued his strong offensive production down the stretch run of the season scoring two goals and Cory Ethridge, a season-long go-to-guy, tallied a goal with an assist. Quint Brothers fielded six shots in the shutout.
