A group of Nyeri county youths has publicly called on Nairobi-based businesswoman Agnes Kagure to abandon her political base in the capital and turn her attention to the Nyeri gubernatorial race ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The youths gathered on Monday, October 19, carrying placards that openly backed Kagure for the Nyeri county top seat. Their calls were unequivocal, with one youth making his position clear without leaving room for debate.
"The governor of Nyeri County this round is Agnes Kagure..... And I don't want anyone's advice," the youth declared.
What prompted the rally?
The public show of support came shortly after Kagure held a consultative meeting with a section of grassroot leaders in Nyeri town, a move that had already ignited discussion within political circles in the county.
Kagure addressed the reaction to that meeting directly, framing criticism as an expected consequence of growing political relevance rather than a setback.
"When a tree begins to bear fruits, it attracts attention, and not all of it will be positive. My engagement with a section of grassroot leaders in Nyeri has sparked debate, but I remain convinced that listening to people and understanding their aspirations are essential to responsible leadership," she said.
Kagure signals political intent
Rather than distancing herself from the growing speculation, Kagure appeared to embrace the momentum, using measured but pointed language to hint at her ambitions.
"Criticism will come, but our focus must remain on the people and the future we want to build together. The drumbeats are only beginning and the future needs no introduction. Better must come!" she added.
Her comments have done little to dampen speculation that she is actively laying the groundwork for a political bid in Nyeri, with the 2027 General Election now firmly on the horizon.
