The New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Kano State Chapter, has expressed optimism that the name of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, will soon be captured by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC had on Saturday released the final names of the candidates for the 2027 general elections but had omitted certain names, including the candidate of the NDC in Kano State, a situation which had triggered concerns across the ranks of the party.
Speaking to Daily Sun, however, the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the NDC, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, explained the omission as an error.
“We believe that there must have been an error somewhere. We submitted his details at the right time. We have no court case anywhere. So there is no cause for alarm. INEC will do the right thing,” he declared.
Mohammed pointed out that aside from the omission of the name of their flag bearer, there were five other party’s candidates whose names were not listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that following concerns by party faithful, the party had contacted INEC, adding that, “Efforts were underway to resolve it on or before Monday or Tuesday.”
He urged party supporters to remain calm, adding that every successful political process comes with challenges.
He called on party members and supporters to continue mobilising voters and campaigning for the NDC at all levels ahead of next year’s general elections.
