Groupe Renault and Dumarey Group have agreed for the latter to acquire Alpine Racing SAS – the Viry-Chatillon base.
The Viry base made headlines when the employees resisted Groupe Renault’s decision to end the F1 powertrain business after decades of production, ahead of the 2026 season, when Alpine took the customer route with Mercedes-Benz.
After the F1 work ended at the site, the Viry base produced powertrains for Alpine’s A524 machinery to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship. However, the future looked uncertain after the decision to discontinue the WEC program after the 2026 season.
Dumeray Steps in To Buy Alpine Racing Base
Amid speculation about Signatech taking over, there is official confirmation that the Viry base will be acquired by Belgian powertrain specialists Dumarey Group. It has snapped up both the ‘tangible and intangible assets required to operate the site’.
Dumarey is looking to expand its expertise in motorsport, and the opportunity came at the right time. It is unclear if it will continue the WEC programme. It is also not certain if there is any change in the F1 side of things as things stand.
But Dumarey has highlighted that it will strengthen the core business of Alpine Racing SAS’s teams to create opportunities to leverage the F1 engine expertise for racing teams in the future. The proposed acquisition was presented at a Works Council meeting of Alpine Racing SAS on October 22, 2026.
It will go through the required regulatory and legal steps before a full transfer. After that, the company will run under the Dumarey Group brand, ownership and management. The move is expected to save the jobs of many employees.
Dumarey Group Impressed By the Facility And Its Capabilities
“Motorsport has always been at the heart of the activities of Alpine Tech’s Viry-Chatillon site,” said the press note. “This center of excellence benefits from more than four decades of Formula 1 development experience, as well as recognized expertise in hybrid and electric propulsion systems, simulation, software and testing.
“For its part, Dumarey Group is seeking to diversify its activities into motorsport and intends to strengthen and further expand its engineering capabilities by adding world-class expertise in high-performance powertrain development, electrification and advanced testing technologies.
“This combination would represent a strong strategic fit with Dumarey’s ambition to accelerate innovation across the automotive, aerospace and industrial sectors.” The Belgian company sees big potential, not just of the Viry base but also the people, to expand the company’s horizon.
“The Viry-Châtillon site has built a strong reputation for advanced engineering and innovation,” said Guido Dumarey, Chairman and Founder of Dumarey Group. “We see considerable potential in combining its highly skilled teams and technical capabilities with Dumarey’s entrepreneurial culture and diversified industrial footprint.
Alpine Pleased to See its Tech Flourishing

“This transaction represents a strong and coherent opportunity to secure and further develop the expertise of the Viry-Châtillon site,” said Axel Plasse, VP Alpine Tech. “It opens up new prospects for employees and for the engineering business. This development is a recognition of the site’s longstanding motorsport expertise, particularly in Formula 1.”
