Pakistan has approved Karachi Industrial Park as a federal Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and introduced new measures to facilitate industrial investment, improve infrastructure and promote the use of industrial land.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the 11th meeting of the Board of Approvals for SEZs on October 23, 2026, where the board approved three key measures aimed at supporting industrial development and export-oriented production.
The board approved Karachi Industrial Park’s application for federal SEZ status.
Government to Fund Infrastructure for Private SEZs
The board also approved general eligibility criteria for providing utilities and related services up to the designated zero point of privately established SEZs through government funding under the SEZ Act, 2012.
The framework allows requests for road access, utilities and other essential facilities to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Punjab Approves New Industrial Land Lease Policy
The board approved a land lease policy for public-sector SEZs and industrial estates in Punjab.
The policy aims to encourage industrial investment through long-term leasing, reducing upfront land costs and promoting more efficient use of publicly owned industrial land.
It also seeks to attract investment in key industrial sectors and emerging industries with strong export potential.
