Three workers have died in a workplace accident at a property in Almancil, Loulé, where they were reportedly carrying out waterproofing work inside a water tank.
The victims were Romanian nationals aged 21, 24 and 40, according to reports confirmed by emergency services and the GNR.
Police said the three men were “found lifeless” inside a water reservoir at a house where they had been carrying out waterproofing work.
The alert was raised at 12.53pm on Monday, prompting a large emergency response involving around 30 personnel and 13 vehicles.
Three other men, aged between 50 and 52, were also assessed by emergency crews at the scene but declined transport to hospital.
Early reports had described the accident as having occurred in a septic tank, although the GNR later specified that the victims had been working inside a water reservoir.
The precise circumstances surrounding the deaths have not yet been established.
Portugal’s Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) is due to attend the scene as part of the investigation into the workplace accident.
