France-based Exide Technologies has launched Solition Powerflex, a modular battery energy storage system (BESS) designed for commercial and industrial applications, renewable energy integration, e-mobility infrastructure and agricultural facilities.
The new system combines a 261 kWh LFP battery with a 125 kW bidirectional power conversion system (PCS) in an outdoor cabinet. Up to 15 cabinets can be connected in parallel for grid-connected applications, providing a maximum combined capacity of 3.915 MWh and power output of 1.875 MW. For off-grid installations, the system supports up to five cabinets.
Each cabinet contains five battery packs with a capacity of 52.25 kWh each, based on 314 Ah LFP cells. The system supports charging and discharging rates of up to 0.5C and operates at an AC voltage of 400 V, with a frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
According to the manufacturer’s technical datasheet, the system offers a nominal round-trip efficiency of 86%, including auxiliary power consumption.
The IP55-rated outdoor cabinet measures 1,000 mm × 1,420 mm × 2,250 mm and weighs approximately 2,720 kg. It occupies a footprint of around 1.42 m² and is designed to operate at ambient temperatures ranging from -20 C to 50 C, with power derating above 45 C. It is IP55 rated for outdoor use.
Thermal management is provided by a dual-loop liquid cooling and heating system, with separate circuits for the battery and power conversion system, rated at 5 kW and 3 kW, respectively.
The cabinet integrates a battery management system, energy management system, PCS, thermal management and fire protection equipment. Safety features include automatic aerosol fire suppression, emergency shutdown, audible and visual alarms, explosion relief devices and a dedicated external firefighting interface.
Exide said the system incorporates a European-developed Storage Control System (SCS) that enables integration with on-site generation assets, grid operators and energy markets. Supported applications include peak shaving, self-consumption optimization, spot-market trading and ancillary services.
The control platform also offers remote monitoring, over-the-air software updates and interfaces for third-party systems. According to Exide, its digital architecture includes encrypted remote connections, EU-based data hosting and multilayer access controls.
“Organizations are increasingly seeking to improve energy resilience, integrate renewable generation and optimize energy costs,” said Serge Arbes, senior business director global, energy solutions, at Exide Technologies. “Solition Powerflex has been designed to address these evolving requirements, combining a scalable architecture with advanced control capabilities in a solution that can adapt to changing business needs.”
Exide has not disclosed standard warranty terms. The technical datasheet indicates that battery capacity and system warranty conditions are available on request.
