Faro residents will soon have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor exercise, with free fitness classes for adults and physical activities for children taking place every Sunday morning.
The initiative, called Domingos Ativos (Active Sundays), will begin on 18 October and is organised by Faro City Council as part of its efforts to encourage healthier lifestyles and make physical activity more accessible to the local community.
As reported by O Algarve, the programme is open to people of different ages and fitness levels, with activities designed for both adults and children.
Fitness classes for adults
Adults will be able to take part in a variety of exercise sessions led by qualified professionals, with activities adapted to participants' physical abilities and experience.
The programme may include Pilates, Zumba, dance, circuit training, HIIT, Tabata and other fitness exercises. The variety of classes is intended to give participants the opportunity to try different forms of exercise, whether they already have an active lifestyle or are looking for a way to start exercising regularly.
Activities for children
While adults participate in fitness sessions, children will have their own activities focused on movement, coordination and physical development.
The children's programme will include running, jumping and games using balls, hoops, ropes and other equipment.
These activities are designed to help children improve their balance, agility and motor skills while enjoying exercise through play.
The initiative also gives families an opportunity to spend their Sunday mornings being active together, with activities available for different age groups.
Encouraging healthier lifestyles
Beyond promoting exercise, Faro City Council hopes the project will encourage residents to make better use of the city's outdoor spaces and green areas.
The municipality also wants to bring different generations together, strengthen community connections and offer families an alternative way to spend their free time.
The programme forms part of Faro's wider Physical Activity Promotion Programme, developed by the municipality's Sports and Youth Department.
All sessions will be organised with the support of the municipal technical team and professionals responsible for leading the activities.
With participation free of charge, Domingos Ativos aims to make regular exercise accessible to more residents, while encouraging both children and adults to enjoy an active start to their Sundays.
