India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has asked Meta to examine its algorithms following concerns over how its platforms amplify online content. The move puts attention on the role of recommendation systems in deciding what users see across Meta’s services.
The review focuses on how platform algorithms influence content distribution. These systems can shape the visibility of posts and determine which material reaches a wider audience.
Focus on Content Amplification
MeitY’s request comes as concerns grow over the way social media platforms distribute online content. Algorithmic recommendations play an important role in shaping users’ feeds and influencing the reach of posts.
An examination of these systems could help clarify how Meta’s algorithms promote content across its platforms. However, the available report does not specify the exact changes MeitY expects Meta to make or provide a deadline for the review.

Meta’s Algorithmic Systems Under Scrutiny
Meta uses recommendation systems to personalize the content users encounter on its platforms. These systems help select posts and other material based on different signals and user activity.
The government’s request brings renewed attention to the relationship between algorithmic recommendations and content visibility. The key issue is how these systems influence the spread of online material. Further details on Meta’s response and any steps it may take were not available in the source report.
