Nine suspects, linked to a double murder, kidnapping and robbery, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, were arrested during a sting operation in Chatsworth.
The arrests were made by the Durban Metro Police Service Drug Team, working with the Chatsworth police tracing team, and Crime Intelligence Unit.
Colonel Booysie Zungu, spokesperson for the Durban metro police, said two men, aged 34 and 24, were arrested for a double murder which occurred in the Progress Road in Welbedacht West on October 3.
He said the murders happened around 2am.
“The firearm used to commit the murder was found in possession of a 46-year-old man.
“He was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and the unlawful possession of ammunition.”
Zungu said three men, aged 21, 24, and 32, were arrested for kidnapping and robbery after they robbed a man of his iPhone, tablet and Adidas sandals.
“One of the suspects owed the victim money. When the victim went to ask for his money, the suspect and two others told the man that he would get nothing from them.
“They then robbed the victim of his iPhone 12, Samsung tablet, and a new pair of Adidas sandals.”
Three men were also charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm for a separate matter.
Zungu said all nine men were due to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
