Beloved Disney animation scores will ring out in orchestral arrangements this Christmas season, in concerts designed for the whole family.
Concert promoter Credia will stage "Disney in Concert: Beyond the Magic" on Dec. 25 at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall. Ahead of that, the production will meet audiences at the Tongyeong Concert Hall on Dec. 18.
"Disney in Concert" is an officially licensed Disney production that combines Disney animation footage projected on a large screen with live singing by musical theater performers and orchestral accompaniment. Since its debut in 2021, the series marks its fifth anniversary this year. Its performance last May also played to a full house, establishing it as a signature show for family audiences.
This edition features a wide range of music, from Disney classics such as "The Little Mermaid," "The Lion King," "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast" to more recent titles including "Tangled," "Moana," "Frozen" and "Frozen 2." As key scenes from the animated films unfold on the large screen, the singers' voices and the orchestra bring the emotion of the movies back to life in the concert hall.
Musical theater performers Lee Su-bin, Lee A-reum-sol, Shin Eun-chong and Lee Jong-seok, who appeared together in the May performance, return to the stage. The Ditto Orchestra, which has played for productions including "Disney in Concert" and "Harry Potter Film Concert," will provide the accompaniment. Tickets range from 50,000 won to 120,000 won.
On the same day, Japanese new age pianist Yuki Kuramoto will present "Christmas Concert: Yuki Kuramoto and Friends" at the Lotte Concert Hall. The year-end concert has run since 2009, and this year singer-songwriter Kwak Jin-eon joins as a special guest. Kwak performs with the Ditto Orchestra in the first half, followed by Kuramoto playing his signature pieces and Christmas carols in the second half. Kim Sung-jin conducts. The concert will be held twice, at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and continues on the 26th at the Poeun Art Hall in Yongin.
