Nigerian media personality Chude Jideonwo has opened up, saying he wrote his will at 30.
Jideonwo, during a recent Interview, said he started journaling in 2015 after he was diagnosed with clinical depression and began therapy, following his therapist’s advice.
He explained that journaling helped him face his fears and think about the worst possible outcomes. This made him reflect on death and consider what he wanted to leave behind for his mother and the NGO he supports.
Jideonwo said these thoughts eventually led him to write his will in 2015 or 2016, when he was 30 or 31.
“After being diagnosed with clinical depression, I started therapy, and my therapist told me to journal. So, in 2015, I journaled like a mad person, writing about things and people I love, how I like to be loved, things I’m insecure about, and the six things I’m afraid of,” he said.
“I thought, ‘What’s the worst that will happen if these things happen?’ I found out that the worst that could happen was dying. So, I thought, ‘What’s the worst that will happen when I die?’ That led me to write my will in 2015 or 2016, when I was 30 or 31 because thought about what I wanted to leave for my mother and the NGO I contribute to.”
Jideonwo further disclosed that during the journaling process, he also reflected on marriage and realised that he did not want to have children, although he acknowledged that he might still change his mind.
“…I also wrote down, ‘Who do I want to get married to? Do I want to get married?’ That was when I realised that I didn’t want to have children,” he added.
“It’s a big thing to realise as a human being and an only child, especially as the only child of a mother I love dearly and want to do everything for. It doesn’t mean I will act on it. I might still decide to have a child.”
