Dark Hunting Ground might look like a simple pixel RPG at first glance, but beneath its minimalist visuals lies a surprisingly complex set of gameplay systems – and plenty of loot. The action RPG is now available on Steam at a 52% discount for the first time.

Dark Hunting Ground is all about killing monsters, collecting better equipment and constantly optimizing your character. The action RPG from BingX has been available on Steam since September 2025 and is now receiving its first 52% discount, bringing the price down to just $6.23 from $12.99. According to SteamDB, that's a new all-time low.
There isn't much of a story, although that's not necessarily a drawback in a game like Dark Hunting Ground. There is a proper setting, however: Players join the Hunter's Association, an organization tasked with hunting monsters and investigating a mysterious threat known as the Void – and that's essentially what they spend their time doing. At its core, the game revolves around beating up monsters, collecting loot and experience points and endlessly fine-tuning your character until they can practically wipe out enemies without breaking a sweat.
While Dark Hunting Ground has a highly minimalist visual style, it features a fast-paced real-time combat system. Players can choose from six classes with a total of 18 basic abilities, which can be modified and combined in numerous ways. There's also an extensive talent and progression system – not to mention mountains of loot to collect. Since equipment is randomly generated, new combinations are constantly possible, providing plenty of motivation to keep hunting for better gear.

The action RPG has received a very positive response from Steam players. Of the roughly 830 user reviews submitted so far, 92% are positive. Some players describe the game as a kind of "Path of Exile without the bloat." It reportedly offers surprisingly deep character progression and a wide variety of possible builds. Its accessibility is another frequently praised aspect. However, the later stages of Dark Hunting Ground can apparently become quite tedious, with repetitive combat and slow progression. On the Steam Deck, the title is at least rated Playable.

As a child in the 90s, my Gameboy was my steady companion. After school, the PlayStation was fired up. When I finally got my first PC, I was completely hooked. My passion for gaming has never waned since. For me, writing for Notebookcheck means reporting on topics that are really close to my heart - in addition to gaming, I also like to write about e-mobility, photovoltaics and innovative gadgets. When I'm not sitting at my computer, I'm probably on water rescue duty on the Baltic coast or trying to counteract the downsides of my geek life - namely sitting for long periods - at the local swimming pool.
