Former Gloucester lock follows teammate Alex Samuel in securing new Scotsoun deal
The 29-year-old, who joined the Scotstoun outfit last year from URC rivals Scarlets, has put pen to paper on a new deal with Franco Smith’s side the same week. He made 16 appearances across the 2025/26 campaign and returned to action this season in last Saturday’s 47-27 Champions Cup win at Sale Sharks where he scored his first try for the club.
Smith described the former Gloucester player as someone who “means a great deal” to the team, saying: “From his first day with us at Scotstoun, Alex has dedicated himself to becoming the best version of himself that he can be, both on and off the field.

Scotland lock ‘delighted’ to sign new deal with club he supported growing up
“He is someone for whom being a Glasgow Warrior means a great deal, both to him personally and to his family, and you can see that each time he takes to the field. He plays an important role for us both with his carrying and his defensive expertise, and we are pleased that he will be staying at Scotstoun for the next couple of seasons.”
The Dumfries native has earned six senior Scotland caps after debuting in 2021 having previously partnered club teammate Scott Cummings in the second row for the under 20s side. Last season he led the URC in successful tackles with a 99.1% success rate from over 100 hits.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Craig on his contract extension. “It was a really easy decision to be honest – I loved my first season with the club, and I’m really excited to see what we can achieve as a group. We’re building well together at Scotstoun and I feel like we’re in a great place.
“I definitely felt like I took some time to find my feet in my first year here, but everyone at the club has made it such a welcoming environment to come in and be part of. I’ve really settled in well and I’m looking forward to kicking on over the next few years.
“It was great to get back on the field on Saturday, and even better to get over for the try – I don’t score many! There was a lot of hard work from the team before I got the ball over the line, so I’ll take it but the credit definitely has to be shared around.
“I just want to play as well as I can in a Glasgow Warriors shirt each and every time I’m selected by the coaches. It’s a team that I’ve supported ever since I was a young lad growing up, so it means a lot to me to have the honour of representing the club and its supporters. I’d obviously love to keep pushing for Scotland honours as well, but the first job is to give my all for Glasgow and put myself in as strong a position as possible.”
