The Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs both had a bye in Week 5, which let them sit back and watch the costly mistakes that sent several teams home with a loss (or, in some cases, a tie) after crumbling late.
Speaking with reporters Monday, Panthers head coach Dave Canales addressed some of the game-management mistakes he went back and watched as his team returns from its bye week.
"None of us can ignore those games. It’s a great opportunity on a bye week to be able to pop on the RedZone, try to see as much as possible," Canales said. "I had to go back because I’m getting texts from coaches about, ‘Did you see what happened here? Did you see this type of management? This decision to do this here?’ ... All these things, these are examples that we like to show our guys ... Just to get the guys snapped back into our decision-making and where we need to go as a unit."

Sunday’s slate had several wild finishes, but two of the most controversial coaching decisions came from Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn.
Sirianni made a costly special teams decision after Jake Elliott kicked a go-ahead field goal with less than 10 seconds left against the Jaguars. Instead of sending the kickoff into the end zone for a touchback, Philadelphia allowed Ameer Abdullah to return it 53 yards, setting up a game-winning field goal from Cam Little.
Washington, meanwhile, forced a turnover in overtime against the Giants and moved into field-goal range, but mishandled the clock with no timeouts remaining. Jayden Daniels couldn’t spike the ball in time, and the Commanders left with a 27-27 tie instead of a win.
Both head coaches have come under fire since, and that’s something Canales clearly wants to avoid.

The Panthers head into Week 6 at 2-2, which keeps them atop the NFC South after Atlanta fell to Baltimore on Sunday night, dropping the Falcons to 2-3. Tampa Bay and New Orleans are both still sitting at just 1-4.
Carolina has already beaten the Falcons and Lions and looks like the best team in the division, but the season is still young, and the Panthers have a good test next Sunday against the Eagles in Philadelphia.
