How AI Tools Can Make Old Smart TVs Faster

AI coding tools like Claude Code are helping users upgrade sluggish Android TVs without buying a new television.

The open-source project tv-vibehack connects compatible Android TVs to a computer over Wi-Fi to simplify the cleanup process.

AI agents can identify unwanted pre-installed apps, advertising services, and background components that clutter the TV experience.

The tool can disable selected bloatware instead of uninstalling it, helping reduce unnecessary background activity.

Users can replace cluttered home screens with a lightweight interface inspired by Apple TV, featuring favourite apps and cleaner navigation.

The custom launcher is designed for TVs with limited memory, including devices with just 1GB of RAM.

The project supports compatible Android TV and Google TV models from brands like Xiaomi, TCL, Sony, Hisense, and OnePlus. Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, and Amazon Fire TV are not supported.

Users need to enable developer options and debugging before connecting a computer. Incorrect changes can affect TV functions, so app selections and device compatibility require careful checks.

The project includes restore scripts to re-enable disabled packages and return to the original launcher. However, it does not remove every advertisement inside streaming apps.
