Lately, easyJet has been making several changes to its network, and the United Kingdom, which is its largest market, has seen some major cuts this year. Simple Flying took a closer look at the airline's scheduled flight data and found that around 18 nonstop routes from the UK have been removed when comparing its network between January and October 2026 with what is scheduled from November 2026 through next summer.

These changes come as the low-cost carrier is offering around 1.4 million fewer seats across its network this winter, and some UK airports are also seeing reductions in capacity.

easyJet Exits Istanbul And Oslo Markets

easyJet has fully exited two markets from the UK this year. One is Istanbul, which it started serving in 2023. Earlier this year, in March, the airline announced that it would end its flights from Manchester (MAN) and Bristol (BRS) to the Turkish city. This is due to lower-than-expected demand and intense competition, particularly from Turkish Airlines on the Manchester route.

Another market the budget carrier has withdrawn from is Oslo (OSL). It previously served the Norwegian capital only from Manchester, where it faced competition from SAS and Norwegian. Given the level of competition, the decision to discontinue the route is perhaps unsurprising. This leaves Tromsø as easyJet's only remaining destination in Norway from the UK.

easyJet Will End All Flights From Leeds Bradford In January 2027

Perhaps the most notable change the airline has made this year is its decision to end all operations at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) from January 5, 2027. The West Yorkshire airport has been part of the airline's network for several years, although easyJet operated only one route to Geneva until 2017, and then it began expanding its network from the airport.

Currently, the low-cost carrier serves five destinations from Leeds Bradford: Barcelona (BCN), Belfast (BFS), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), Málaga (AGP), and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). It also offered seasonal flights to Geneva. Its flights to Malaga and Palma de Mallorca will end in November, followed by the permanent withdrawal of the remaining three routes in early January. The decision is perhaps unsurprising given the level of competition at Leeds Bradford, where easyJet has a relatively small presence.

Jet2, which is based at the airport, already serves Barcelona, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Malaga, and Palma de Mallorca, while Ryanair also operates flights to the latter two destinations. Together, Jet2 and Ryanair account for approximately 83.5% of the airport's seat capacity. Belfast is the only route without direct airport-to-airport competition, although Aer Lingus Regional serves Belfast City using ATR 72 aircraft.

easyJet Cuts Winter Capacity As Costs Rise

Furthermore, the Northern Hemisphere winter season begins tomorrow, October 25, when airlines, including easyJet, will switch to their winter schedules. This year, however, the UK budget airline is making several capacity cuts amid market volatility, ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and rising fuel prices.

Earlier this summer, the airline announced plans to reduce its winter 2026/27 capacity by 600,000 to 700,000 seats. Earlier this month, it announced a further reduction of around 700,000 seats, bringing the total cuts to approximately 1.3 million to 1.4 million seats. This represents roughly 2.8% to 3% of its typical winter capacity of around 50 million seats.

The UK remains easyJet's largest market, but some of its busiest airports are seeing reductions. According to OAG data, London Luton is expected to lose around 66,000 seats, a 5.2% decline, while London Gatwick, which is the airline's largest base, will cut about 90,000 seats, or 2.5%. For Gatwick, this equates to roughly four fewer flights per day.
