LAHORE – Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson is likely to take charge of the national Test team for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) considers his continued involvement in the red-ball setup.
The sources said that Mike Hesson is expected to assume head coaching responsibilities for the series, which will be played next month. His possible appointment would extend his current role beyond limited-overs cricket and provide continuity in the team’s coaching arrangements.
Mike Hesson was previously assigned interim responsibility for Pakistan’s Test side ahead of the third Test against England. He took over the role after Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed from the position, marking a change in the team’s coaching setup during the series.
The New Zealand-born coach currently serves as Pakistan’s permanent head coach in white-ball formats, overseeing the national team’s preparations and campaigns in one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals.
His potential appointment for the Sri Lanka Tests comes as Pakistan prepares for another important red-ball assignment. The two teams are scheduled to contest a two-match Test series, with the opening match set to begin on November 9 and the second Test scheduled to start on November 17.
The series will provide Pakistan an opportunity to assess its Test combination and build momentum in the longer format, while the coaching arrangement is expected to play a key role in preparations.
Although Hesson’s appointment has yet to be officially confirmed, sources indicate that he is likely to continue in charge of the Test team for the Sri Lanka series.
The PCB has not formally announced whether the interim arrangement will be extended or whether a separate head coach will be appointed for the red-ball side.
