The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued rapid alerts over five batches of fake medicines detected in Karachi, warning that their use could pose serious health risks.
According to DRAP, the affected products include Augmentin tablets, Velosef capsules, Nasomet nasal spray, No-Spa Forte 80mg tablets and Mucaine syrup.
These medicines are used to treat conditions including bacterial infections, allergies, muscle spasms, and gastric irritation.
The Drug Testing Laboratory in Karachi declared samples from all five batches counterfeit.
The authority said the products were manufactured illegally and supplied to the market under the brand names of national and multinational pharmaceutical companies.
It added that the raw materials used in the sampled medicines could not be verified, while their quality, safety, and effectiveness remain unknown.
DRAP warned that using these fake products could be life-threatening and directed provincial drug control authorities and field teams to seize the affected batches from the market.
