In August, the Tampa Bay Rays acquired Freddy Peralta in a trade with the New York Mets. Just a few days later, he was named AL Pitcher of the Month. Apparently, it was a sign of bigger things to come for the Rays.
On Monday, Peralta and Tampa Bay reached the World Series after outclassing the Cleveland Guardians, 7-3, in Game 6 of the ALCS at Tropicana Field.
The 30-year-old Peralta was named MVP of the best-of-seven series. He allowed one run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. He also led the Brewers to the win in Game 2 and recorded a hold in Game 4.

In the process, he also achieved a rare milestone, according to OptaSTATS.
“Freddy Peralta over his last 10 appearances dating back to the regular season: 50.0+ total IP, one run or fewer allowed in all 10, and the team won all 10,” read the post on X.
“The last two MLB pitchers to do that over a stretch of 10 appearances (regular/postseason) were Bob Gibson (1968) and Walter Johnson (1913).”

Gibson starred for the St. Louis Cardinals, while Johnson played for the Washington Senators. Both won a championship.
Peralta has peaked at the perfect time for the Rays, who sent Aidan Smith, Gary Gill Hill, and Emilien Pitre to the Mets to acquire the two-time All-Star.
He reached the World Series for the first time and is set to face his former team, the Milwaukee Brewers, who signed him in 2018.
The Rays advanced to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2020.
