Imphal, Oct 20: Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against seven adults and a juvenile in connection with the alleged murder of 54-year-old Manipuri musician and music teacher Chongtham Vikram Singh in southeast Delhi’s Kilokari area.
The chargesheet, spanning more than 500 pages, was submitted before the Saket Court and includes statements from 30 witnesses. The accused face charges of murder, criminal conspiracy and house-trespass.
The incident occurred on September 6, when Singh, who had lived in Kilokari for more than two decades, reportedly objected to a group of dhaba workers and delivery executives drinking and creating a disturbance outside his residential building.
According to the police investigation, an argument broke out after Singh asked the group to reduce the noise. Eight men allegedly pursued him to the third floor of the building and assaulted him outside his apartment.
Singh sustained fatal blunt-force injuries in the attack, which took place in front of his 20-year-old son, Yaiphaba. He was taken to Holy Family Hospital, where he later died.
During custodial interrogation, the accused reportedly told investigators that they wanted to “teach him a lesson” for repeatedly objecting to the disturbance near their eatery. They allegedly claimed they had not expected the assault to result in his death.
The seven adults named in the chargesheet are Bharat Kumar, 19; Pramod, 26; Ramzan Khan, 22; Deepanshu, 21; Mohan Vishwakarma, 32; Vijay, 36; and Mannu, 26. A juvenile has also been implicated in the case.
All seven adult accused and the juvenile were reported to be in judicial custody.
