The Atlanta Dream are making a strong push in the 2026 WNBA Finals, and Angel Reese has played a major role in their success. However, a recent comparison involving the young forward and some of Atlanta’s biggest sporting legends has not gone down well with OutKick founder Clay Travis.
Clay Travis Is Not Happy With a Recent Comparison of Angel Reese
Travis recently shared a video on his X account showing a moment from a WNBA press conference.
During the interaction, a reporter compared Reese to Atlanta sports legends such as Deion Sanders, Dominique Wilkins, and Hank Aaron, and asked the Dream star how she felt about being mentioned alongside them.
Reese kept her answer humble and pointed out that she has only been with Atlanta for about six months. She said it meant a lot just to have her name mentioned alongside those greats.
“Yeah, it definitely means a lot. I’ve only been here for six months. I don’t know how y’all can give me that yet, but all right. My goal was to come to Atlanta and win a championship. And I think you become one of the greats and you become one of the best when you can win and impact winning.”
“And that’s all I wanted to do coming here. Everything else really doesn’t matter to me. But when we win this championship for the city of Atlanta that has done so much and poured so much into the sports here, that’s what’s going to feel amazing and more than anything,” Reese said during the press conference.
However, Travis did not share the reporter’s apparent enthusiasm for the comparison. He reacted to the clip by calling the suggestion “Just utterly absurd,” making his position clear.
“I can’t believe that’s real. Angel Reese has nothing in common with Hank Aaron, nothing in common with Deion Sanders, nothing in common with Dominique Wilkins. All of those people admittedly are Atlanta sports icons.”
“She is none of those. I can’t believe that is a real question that was truly asked. That’s who they’re letting ask questions. Just utterly absurd,” Travis said in his video.
There was another reason he shared the clip. Travis also complained that OutKick has not been called on at WNBA press conferences, contrasting that with the question Reese received. In his view, the questions that do get asked can be a bit over the top, and he wanted to show people what he meant.
“I mentioned that Outkick cannot get a question asked of anyone at the WNBA press conferences, because they will not allow Outkick to be called on as a media organization. But meanwhile, we have questions like this.”
“Somebody asked Angel Reese, ‘what’s it like to become an Atlanta area sports icon like Hank Aaron, like Dominique Wilkins, like Deion Sanders?’ I can’t believe this is real, but it happened. It ain’t spectacular, but it is real,” Travis said at the beginning of his video.
While comparing Reese with Atlanta’s greatest sporting figures may be premature, her impact on the Dream’s current playoff run is difficult to overlook.
The forward has been a key contributor as Atlanta battles the Golden State Valkyries in the 2026 WNBA Finals. Through the first three games, Reese has averaged 21.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. She has also recorded a double-double in every game of the series.
Her performances have helped Atlanta take control of the series. The Dream secured a convincing 97-71 victory in Game 3, moving ahead 2-1. A Game 4 win would give Atlanta a 3-1 series lead.
The team will now look to build on that momentum when it hosts the Valkyries for Game 4 on Saturday at State Farm Arena.
