Local sources say that, as part of the ongoing restrictions on education in Afghanistan, the Taliban have shut down all private educational centres in Parun, the capital of Nuristan Province.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, October 22, that the Taliban’s provincial Directorate for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice had sent letters to private educational centres, warning them to close their doors.
According to a letter obtained by the Hasht-e Subh Daily, the Taliban’s Directorate for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Nuristan has asked the owners of these educational centres to report to the directorate with their operating licences.
Sources say the Taliban’s Directorate for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Nuristan had previously warned these educational centres several times to refrain from expanding English-language education.
This comes as the Taliban have imposed strict restrictions on education across the country over the past five years, closing schools and educational centres to girls above the sixth grade.
