WASHINGTON, October 17. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order not to increase duties on Russian goods by 500% as required by the law on tightening anti-Russian sanctions.
As follows from the order published on Friday on the White House website, under the law, the tariffs must be "increased by 500 percent ad valorem." Trump said he was "waiving the application of duties" provided for by the law.
The decree does not specify how long these exceptions will be valid. According to the document, the government will inform Trump about the circumstances that may require further decisions to continue these exemptions.
On September 18, Trump signed into law a bill passed by Congress that tightens US sanctions against Russia’s top political and military leadership and state·owned companies. The law imposes a 500·% increase in duties on supplies from Russia, as well as a 100·% increase on supplies from countries that are key buyers of Russian energy.
