Katsina State is targeting the planting and nurturing of 11 million trees by 2030 as part of efforts to combat desertification, restore degraded land and strengthen environmental resilience.
The initiative, known as the Katsina One Tree Initiative, was highlighted at the Second Katsina State Climate Action and Green Investment Summit.

Hannatu Musawa, who spoke at the summit, commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for his commitment to environmental sustainability and green growth.
She described the tree-planting initiative as an important step towards protecting the environment and building a more sustainable future for residents.
The programme is expected to contribute to efforts to address desertification, a major environmental challenge in northern Nigeria, where land degradation and changing climate conditions threaten livelihoods and agricultural productivity.
The initiative also aligns with broader climate action efforts aimed at restoring vegetation and strengthening communities’ ability to withstand environmental pressures.
Achieving the 2030 target will depend not only on planting trees but also on ensuring their survival through sustained care and maintenance.
