A new initiative by inDrive and Tech Valley will offer free digital safety and AI literacy classes to 900 children of ride-hail drivers across Pakistan and Egypt. The program, called Digital Safar, specifically targets families that typically lack access to such training.
The three-week program will enroll children in grades 6 through 10 through live online classes. In Pakistan, 300 students will join six cohorts taught entirely in Urdu. Meanwhile, Egypt will host 600 students across twelve cohorts taught in Arabic. An in-person orientation for Pakistani families will take place in Islamabad on October 17, with classes running from October 19 to November 9.
Awais Saeed, Country Lead of inDrive Pakistan, said the program supports drivers who work hard to build better futures for their children. “We believe every child deserves the chance to be prepared for the future, regardless of their circumstances,” he added.
Digital Safar draws on Google’s “Be Internet Awesome” and “Gemini Academy” curricula. As a result, it covers two distinct learning tracks. Students in grades 6 to 8 will focus on practical online safety skills like spotting fake messages, identifying phishing attempts, and securing their accounts. In addition, older students in grades 8 to 10 will learn how to use AI tools responsibly and evaluate AI-generated information critically.
Saba Kalsoom, Head of AI Strategy and Operations at Tech Valley, highlighted the program’s practical approach. “They will know how to spot a fake message, protect their accounts, and use Gemini as a learning partner instead of a shortcut,” she said.
This is not the first time Digital Safar has appeared in Pakistan. Tech Valley, a Google for Education partner based in Pakistan, originally launched the program in 2024 alongside Jazz. That version targeted over 300,000 students with coding and digital citizenship training. However, this new iteration focuses on a more specific audience: children of gig economy drivers who may not attend schools with digital literacy resources.
The focus on drivers’ children stands out because Pakistan’s gig economy workforce continues to grow rapidly. Yet most digital literacy programs still target urban school students or professionals. By reaching families within the ride-hail ecosystem, inDrive and Tech Valley address a gap that few programs have attempted to fill so far.
Beyond digital safety, the program also teaches students to build personal Digital Citizenship Booklets as a final project. These booklets will contain safety rules, online habits, and original slogans created by the students themselves.
