Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll believes Cam Ward is making the right decisions with the ball as the young quarterback approaches what might become the longest losing stretch of his NFL career.
Ward is 3-19 as the Titans starter and Tennessee has not won a game since Dec. 21, 2025, with seven losses dating back to last season. The longest losing streak in Ward's rookie year was seven games.
Tennessee (0-5, 0-1 AFC South) is winless heading into Week 6’s division game at the Indianapolis Colts (2-3, 1-0) on Oct. 18 (noon, FOX).
“I have a lot of confidence in the young man (Ward). It has not been an easy start to his career,” Daboll said before practice Oct. 15. “But his mindset, and I would say his process, he holds true to. I have a lot of belief in him and the things he can do and how he approaches it every week.”
The flashes Ward has shown in year two since his No. 1 overall draft selection in 2025 haven’t been enough to lift his numbers: He ranks 26th in the league in passer rating (77.2), 24th in passing yards (896) and tied for 27th in passing touchdowns (30).
Tennessee’s staff has been reluctant to make any big changes to their plan with Ward.
The Titans produced a season-low 187 yards and made one red-zone appearance in a 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 5 and are last in the NFL in yards per game (246.4) and points per game (11.6).
There’s some thinking that Ward could benefit from Daboll coaching from the sideline. Daboll said before practice he will stay in the coaching box, though he’s coached from both spots in his career.
“We need to do better in a number of areas to give ourselves a chance on game day,” Daboll said. “We go out and practice well, but situation football is big for us, to improve on third down and red zone. That’s a collective. But putting the ball on the ground and turnovers early in games, giving the ball away or changing field position, that’s on us as an offense to take care of the ball and emphasize explosive plays, whether that’s plays through the air or guys making contested catches.”
