Liberty Caribbean is urging employees and customers to exercise greater caution when handling suspicious messages and requests as artificial intelligence (AI) makes cyber threats, including impersonation and fraud, increasingly sophisticated.
The telecommunications company, which operates Flow, Liberty Business and BTC, is marking Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October with a campaign emphasising human judgement in protecting personal information and digital systems.
The initiative, coordinated with parent company Liberty Latin America (LLA), promotes three practices: pause, verify and report. It also encourages responsible AI use and greater care when handling sensitive information.
On 13 October, LLA held a company-wide cybersecurity town hall examining the impact of AI in the workplace and the importance of employees recognising potential threats. Staff across Liberty Caribbean joined the session, with some markets organising group viewings.
The discussion featured LLA chief information security officer Felipe Ruíz, Liberty Costa Rica general manager Johanna Escobar and senior information security manager Luis García. It was hosted by communications associate manager Wendy Madriz.
The panellists said AI could improve workplace efficiency but also created security risks that technology alone could not address. They urged employees to question unusual requests, verify information and report suspected threats.
Flow Antigua and Barbuda country manager Wayne Hull said protecting customers’ information was central to the company’s responsibilities.
“As a telecommunications provider, protecting our customers and their information is fundamental to the trust they place in us,” Hull said.
He added: “We want every team member to recognise that cybersecurity is not solely the responsibility of our technical teams. The decisions we make every day, from handling customer information to responding to suspicious messages, all contribute to a safer digital environment.”
Throughout October, the company is conducting employee awareness activities, issuing training reminders and distributing digital messages across the region. It is also advising customers to remain alert to AI-enabled impersonation and fraudulent requests.
