Sean Freeder, director of the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab, describing polling that found 68 percent of Florida voters disapprove of data centers being built in their area, including 84 percent of Democrats, 76 percent of independents and 52 percent of Republicans. The numbers have made data centers one of the defining issues in Florida’s gubernatorial race between Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly, who has dubbed his opponent “Data Center Donalds” and is promising a one-year moratorium if elected. Donalds has received $6 million in direct donations and advertising support from data center-aligned donors. At least two Central Florida counties are considering moratoriums even without any data center proposals currently in the pipeline. (Orlando Sentinel)
