Miami is the No. 1 team in the country for the first time since 2002, and the Hurricanes' defense of that ranking begins Saturday at home against Pitt.
Miami (6-0, 4-0 ACC) managed to keep its perfect record intact last week with a double-overtime win over Florida State and ascended to the top spot after Georgia's loss to Auburn.
Pitt (5-2, 2-2 ACC) is coming off a 27-21 loss to Boston College, its second straight defeat, despite jumping out to a 12-0 first-quarter lead.
Freshman quarterback Corey Dailey threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Cataurus Hicks on the first play of his first career start, and the Panthers added a blocked punt that resulted in a safety. However, BC rallied to take a 14-12 halftime lead and held on for the win.
