Illicit liquor seized, one detained

Police detained an illicit liquor seller and seized foreign liquor worth thousands of rupees during a raid at Shantinagar under Kalyanpur police station in Tripura’s Khowai district on the night of Maha Navami, police said.

The raid was conducted following information received from sources, as part of the police campaign against the illegal sale of liquor during the Durga Puja festivities.

Police officer Anjan Debbarma said the drive against illicit liquor sales and substance abuse would continue in the coming days. He said the police would take necessary steps to curb the illegal sale of liquor in the area.

The latest action came a day after Kalyanpur police detained another alleged liquor seller during a raid in the Kalyanpur motor stand area. A large quantity of foreign liquor was seized during that operation, according to the information provided.

The two separate raids conducted on consecutive days formed part of the police drive against the illegal liquor trade during the festive season.

Police have not disclosed the quantity of liquor seized in the Shantinagar raid or the identity of the person detained. Further details of the case were not immediately available.
