BYU is getting its top 2027 target on campus as 5-star wing AJ Williams will begin his official visit October 15. Brandon Jenkins of 247 Sports was the first to report the visit.

Williams will attend the BYU-Nebraska exhibition game Friday night and should be able to take part in the College Gameday festivities on Saturday. Sources tell me that BYU has been targeting this weekend for some time so Williams could attend the Nebraska exhibition and BYU-Notre Dame game.
As I detailed back in September, AJ Williams has been BYU’s top target in the 2027 class. Kevin Young has made it clear that he will target a 5-Star guard/wing in each class, and BYU is trying to make AJ Williams follow in the footsteps of Egor Demin, AJ Dybantsa, and Bruce Branch. The recruiting pitch for Williams is simple — Kevin Young can turn on the tape for each of those guys and show how he will use AJ and what he can do to prepare him for the NBA.
The Georgia native has already taken official visits to Auburn, Mississippi State, and Georgia. Industry sources have told me that BYU is considered the front runner at the moment. This official visit could get BYU closer to sealing the deal. The opportunity to play in Kevin Young’s system and be featured in BYU’s offense is intriguing to AJ, sources have told me. This isn’t a done deal yet, however, and home state school Georgia particularly is a threat.
AJ Williams was the #1 recruit in the 2028 class until he reclassified to 2027, where 247 Sports rates him at #5. Listed at 6-foot-7, AJ is a dynamic scorer and shot creator who can fit into the mold of what BYU did with AJ Dybantsa. While he isn’t the prospect Dybantsa was (I mean, nobody really is) he is a wing scorer who BYU would feature and build around.
AJ was part of Chris Paul’s AAU team, who has a very close relationship with Kevin Young and has told AJ what KY can do for him. AJ Dybantsa and Rob Wright attended one of Williams’ AAU events in the spring and saw him play and spoke to him then.
